The Flux Connection

Have you ever wondered why the solar cycle we are about to begin is cycle number 23? The sun has been around for several billion years. It should be cycle number 23 million.

Ethnocentric as we are, we believe that there are no solar cycles if there's no one around to observe them. So we began counting when we began observing, in 1749. Imagine those bronze and smoked-glass instruments, the Monks and Royal Astronomers counting marks on the sun. Could they have visualized how those cold spots would affect our science and stir our imaginations?

What about human life and world events? Is there a correlation? Here is a study of world events during periods of high and low solar flux. At the conclusion, I will present three possible connections between those spots on the sun and the tide of human emotion. Get ready. There is something most chilling, yes, even frightening about the results!

Solar Flux and World Events, 1749-1994

Solar High: 1750 (93): British And French Colonial Wars. If we extrapolate the 11-year cycle back to 1745, when the flux was LOW, we have Voltaire and the age of enlightenment in Europe.

Solar Low: 1755 (9): The Habsburg-Bourbon Alliance in Central Europe.

Solar High: 1761 (87-116): A long, shallow high. The Seven Years War.

Solar Low: 1766: Treaty of Paris.

Solar High: 1772-1780 (126): Long, high-flux high. American War of Independence.

Solar Low: 1783: Cultural revival of Germany.

Solar High: 1788-1794: French Revolution. British War with France. Russo-Turkish War.

Solar Low: 1798: Union of Great Britain and Ireland. Bonaparte rules France. Peace of Amiens.

Solar High: 1801, 1802: War of the Third Coalition.

Solar Low: 1810 (0): Deep bottom of cycle. Confederation of the Rhine. Franco-Russian alliance.

Solar High: 1812-1819: A long, shallow high. War of 1812. Napoleon invades Russia, Battle of Liepzig, Napoleon defeated at Waterloo.

Solar Low: 1823: Restoration in France, Congress of Verona, Monroe Doctrine.

Solar High: 1830: Revolution in France and Belgium, Russo-Turkish War. Revolution put down in Poland.

Solar Low: 1833: The Victorian Age, Slavery abolished in England.

Solar High: 1837-1838: Anglo-Chinese Opium War.

Solar Low: 1843: A shallow low. Treaty system established in China. Legal reforms in England.

Solar High: 1848-1854 (132): A big peak. Marx and Engels “Communist Manifesto”. Revolutions in Germany, France. Crimean War.

Solar Low: 1856: Japan opens trade with the West. Golden age of Free Trade.

Solar High: 1860-1865: American Civil War. Austro-Italian War.

Solar Low: 1866-1867: Unification of Germany. Suffrage in England.

Solar High: 1870-1876 (140): A long, flat high. Franco-Prussian War, fall of Napoleon III, Populism and Nihilism in Russia.

Solar Low: 1878: Congress of Berlin, Darwin's Descent of Man, Paris Commune.

Solar High: 1883: A very weak high. French enter Indochina, Czar Alexander II assassinated.

Solar Low: 1890: New Zealand gives vote to women. Franco-Russian Alliance.

Solar High: 1894-1899: Sino-Japanese War, Spanish-American War, Boer War. (Note: It was during this period that Marconi and other experimenters were first determining the distance that radio waves could be sent.)

Solar Low: 1902: Growth of Democracy in Europe. Anglo-Japanese Alliance. Australia gives vote to women.

Solar High: 1908-1910: A shallow, weak high. Russo-Japanese War, Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

Solar Low: 1911-1914: Parliamentary reform in England. Triple Entente: Britain, France, Russia.

Solar High: 1914-1921: Peak in 1917, (104). First World War, Russian Revolution. U.S. enters War in 1917. Greek - Turkish War.

Solar Low: 1922: Prosperity Decade, Irish Free State.

Solar High: 1924-1931: Stock Market Crash, Great Depression, Rise of Dictators, Manchurian Crisis.

Solar Low: 1933: F. D. Roosevelt elected president, USSR joins League of Nations.

Solar High: 1935-1942: Spanish Civil War, Soviet Purges, Germany annexes Austria, Second World War, Axis Victories.

Solar Low: 1944: Allies liberate Western Europe, Russian Offensives, Death of Hitler and Mussolini (1945), United Nations Established.

Solar High: 1948-1952: French war in Indochina (Vietnam), Arab-Israeli War, Korean War, USSR tests atom bomb.

Solar Low: 1953: Short-duration low. DNA discovered, French leave Indochina.

Solar High: 1958 (201): All-time sunspot record. The Cold War, USSR deploys ICBM, Cuban Revolution, Famine in China. Civil war in Africa, U.S. involvement in Vietnam (1961), President Kennedy assassinated (1963).

Solar Low: 1964: Very short, shallow low. U.N. boasts 110 members. DeGaulle elected in France.

Solar High: 1968 (110): Chinese Cultural Revolution, Student Riots in France, Soviets invade Czechoslovakia, Arab-Israeli Six-Day War.

Solar Low: 1973-1975: Nixon Resigns, End of Vietnam War, Helsinki Accord.

Solar High: 1979-1982 (165): Soviets Invade Afghanistan, Vietnam occupies Cambodia, U.S. Hostage crisis in Iran, Iran-Iraq War, New Disease - AIDS.

Solar Low: 1986: Marcos overthrown in Philippines, Civil War ends in Uganda, Gorbachev becomes Soviet Leader.

Solar High: 1988-1992: China puts down Democracy Movement, Angola Civil War, Persian Gulf War.

Solar Low: 1993- : Israel-PLO Peace Accord, Mandela becomes President of South Africa…

Conclusions

I should truly leave the conclusions to the reader. Is there a correlation? Here's what I think:

When events were “borderline”, I tended to favor the “trend” as I saw it develop. I can't guarantee that other researchers will arrive at the same conclusions, but the “trend” seems to say:

These are the three possibilities:

  1. There is no connection whatsoever, it is all random. -OR- There is no connection, but there is a human cycle of aggression and conciliation that just coincidentally melds with the solar clock.
  2. The human cycle just mentioned, a circadian cycle, somehow crimps the relativistic fabric of space-time. This energy-warp distorts/modulates the fusion reaction inside the sun. Therefore: HUMAN AGGRESSION AND NEGATIVE ENERGY CAUSE SUNSPOTS!
  3. The opposite: That solar flux warps the continuum is the final case. The subtle magnetic bending, and bombardment by solar particles invades the neuron-synapses in the human brain and makes us more aggressive. SUNSPOTS CAUSE AGGRESSION AND WARMONGERING!

If (2) or (3) someday proves to be true, what can we expect from cycle 23 besides improved radio conditions? Something to think about!
